Pieces of 8 uses a familiar vocabulary to speak a new language, it's expression of American vocal music. The St. Louis base a cappella octet creates a kaleidoscope of sound with which to explore America's diverse musical and cultural heritage, and honor it's boundless and unpredictable spirit. This dynamic group of singers consist of four men and four women whose voices combine in rich harmony to create a seamless blend of sound. All of the music performed by Pieces of 8 is written or arranged exclusively for the ensemble by Artistic Director, Charles Mead, who combines classical music influences with the sounds of gospel, Reggae, doo-wop Cajun, and soul to create music with a rich, multi-layered orchestral texture. Pieces of 8's unique vocal style and distinctive arrangements create a powerful, sophisticated, and delightfully entertaining musical experience.
